First time posting, so sorry for any mistakes.

I've had an ITS for a few months now and I want to do some exhaust upgrades. I'm looking for a louder and deeper tone. I've heard good things about switching to a PRL frontpipe and a TSP downpipe, but adding those two components together brings the cost close to an AWE touring exhaust.

Any recommendations or suggestions? I live in California at the moment, so anything that meets emissions regulations would be great.

I would say that since you ask the question for a type S, you should post in the type S forum.

The fact that you’re in Cali. Just do a cat back bro with front pipe. Leave the dp alone

DP+FP will give you a power bump and mild sound

A catback without DP will not give you a power bump but it will give you more sound than just a DP/FP

Being in CA, I would do just an exhaust. I did one on mine and I was content.

Let us know if we can help.

Remark and Apexis are hot sellers for us on this platform.

I'm on the exhaust hunt, as well. One of the biggest items you need to figure out with a cat back is if you want to retain the factory exhaust valve or not. Price points are all over the place, too...especially when you consider some of these systems don't come with a front pipe.

I don’t really know if I want to keep the factory exhaust valve; I keep my car in sport+ all the time anyway. Should I be looking for an exhaust that comes with a front pipe?

I find value in the valve. Only cuz I like my neighbors,

but I feel like seeing value in the valve will definitely change from person to person

Same. Mine is mainly for keeping it pretty tame while cruising around on the highway with the family or in areas of higher police activity, but with the ability to be a menace when I want to.

What exhaust are you looking at or what exhaust do you have?

I have the stock exhaust, but I just ordered an Invidia R400...I figure I'd rather get used to drone/rowdiness than be disappointed with quiet...lol

So generally speaking (and especially for any 4 banger turbo car) the typical configurations that most people agree sound the best are (in order):

Muffler chop/replace
Downpipe + stock catback
Catback (or more specifically muffler reduction and resonator still in place)
Res delete (more for the civics) + catback
Downpipe + catback + aftermarket larger resonator
Downpipe + no res + catback

As you move down the list you get louder and less refined.

They never sound in person how they do in videos. You can shop by video all you want, but if you have a chance to hear differences in person, that's a huge plus.

Since you're in Cali, like others have said I would skip the risk of them catching you with a downpipe or go through the hassle of having to replace it just to smog it. Another name I like to use for down pipes is "drone pipes" because that's largely what they do. To keep drone down with a downpipe you almost always need a larger resonator than factory to compensate.

You pretty much nailed the reason I went with a catback. I’m holding off on a downpipe and the necessary tune until after I’m closer to the end of my warranty. I may not even do it in the end, to be honest…but the stock exhaust bores me…
