Note that lateral play in the shifter is not play in the gearbox. The shifter uses cables on this transmission and the play you are seeing is in the shifter. Mine looks to be about the same. Seems to be normal for this car.

Agreed, I find that slowing down the shift by a fraction makes for a smoother shift. I still do sometimes feel the shifter clicking in my hand.
