Bummer. I’ve seen the trouble you’ve had in your other posts.
I updated the title to remove the CarPlay/USB part since others with the steering problem weren’t using those things.
yeah maybe. Could be totally mechanical and unrelated. I’ve been keeping notes every time I drive.
I swapped out the USB cable I was using on Sunday and it hasn’t happened since. Still keeping notes though.
Thanks for sharing, @PJK3 and glad to know your experience with wireless android auto. I may be reading too much into my infotainment-related behaviors, but I don't want to ignore them. Could be two problems with the same symptoms.
I just posted in...
the sticky steering happened a little bit about a week ago. Not as severe as my original post but still noticeable. I made an appointment and took the car in to the dealership today. It wasn’t acting up yesterday or today though so I expected the visit would mostly be to report that it happened...
Are you using wireless CarPlay? Wireless CarPlay always has a good deal of latency (regardless of the car), even for skipping songs in the Music app. Wired will be a lot more responsive.
Went out for about an hour today, no problems with steering. Different initial conditions though - CarPlay worked as expected and maps didn’t lag. I was on different roads but still was able to check 45-50mph.
still going to make an appointment to take it in after the holiday though.
Yeah you weren't kidding: https://www.civic11forum.com/search/75785/?q=sticky+steering&o=relevance
Definitely what I was feeling. I'll see what happens today and if having my phone plugged in makes a difference.
Wow thanks for the info. I didn’t think to check if it was a civic problem too but obviously that makes a ton of sense. And I have 3700 miles on the car so that tracks too.
Yeah I’ll take it in. I do want to be clear that the car didn’t feel unsafe, just that the steering was a “sticky” when trying to make minor corrections. And the CarPlay acting up seemed relevant.
Edit 2023-10-14: This problem is still happening intermittently, regardless of CarPlay/USB connection. It matches the problem reported for 2022+ Honda Civic investigated in https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/inv/2023/INOA-PE23005-3644.PDF. It May occur more at colder temps. My original experience with...
I was torn between Apex Blue and Performance Red, but I went red and I love it. Still puts a smile on my face every time I see it.
but honestly, I think this car looks great in all the colors.
Yeah I've noticed neither of those are really working well. I think I saw some explanation for the passenger mirror tilt down - like you had to wait for it to tilt back up before putting it in 1st or something. But I just turned it off. I did like the feature but I liked having my passenger...
I turned off the constant lane departure correction in the menus for those reasons, but I do activate the lane keep (button showing the steering wheel between two lanes) at cruising highway speeds. I think that works well and is easy to toggle.
