I've got a '24 A Spec Tech with 4800 miles. I kept it stored in my garage this last winter and the battery died. When I got it started again, I had all sorts of error messages. So I wait the three weeks to get it into the dealer. They're saying the steering rack is needing replacement.

What would cause that?

Last summer the HUD crapped out and they had to replace that module, now this year the steering rack. Do I have lemon?

Did the error messages go away after a short drive and power cycling the car a few times? This is normal behavior when disconnecting the battery. Not sure why the steering rack would cause error messages.

If literally nothing else changed, it's probably just phantom codes you'll need to reset or drive 50mi to clear.

If they're saying you need a new rack, could it be that a mouse got in and ate your wiring or something?

Otherwise, I would call BS on them and have them prove to you it's the rack - either way, the car is under warranty isn't it? Make Honda pay for it.

if you do this next week, a battery tender may be useful to avoid this and keep a battery itself. Acura batteries are not so strong.

Were you able to drive it or did the rack lock itself?

Also, adding on to the other person's comment above... Battery tenders certainly help if you're going to do 4mo+ of no driving, but usually if it's draining far enough to be unusable in 3mo or less, something is a parisitic draw. Typically it's people leaving the key fob in the car or way to close to it. Key fob in a copper, lead, or true Faraday bag of some sort helps. Unplug everything from all ports in the car. And so on...

Well it did get to about 30 below. 😵💫
So if it's functioning fine and everything drives normally... Doesn't sound like a hardware issue, does it?
No it doesn't

Then I would press the. Sounds like they're shooting in the dark if they can't point to a specific sensor, part, or something else. I wouldn't want an acura tech replacing a wheel liner, let alone the whole dash being pulled
