shift knob

Been reading inconsistent posts on how to do this. To swap out the shift knob to the titanium OEM, do I even need to drop the boot and use wrench, or do I simply unscrew the nob counterclockwise?

never did it myself but my neighbor with a fl5 did it in front of me. I refused to help. His choice of knob was gross and sacrilege but I saw em do the whole thing. Gotta do the ol upskirt bro

For some it works to unscrew the knob but for most, the locking nut is too tight to release the knob. I had to remove the boot and it was a PITA and I did break the tabs on the collar.

I did not remove the center console for fear of breaking it but on hind sight it seems that would have been the best/easier method.

The "simply twist and pull down" method does not work as the collar ledge that the tabs slide up and clips in goes around full circle and not partially flat where the tabs could slide down if that make sense.

Either way, since my tabs broke I added some electrical tape around the locking nut and the collar slipped in nice and tight so the broken tabs didn't sting as much afterwards.
