While putting the OEM rack on the car I noticed that the “business end” of the cheap plastic lock that comes with the rack looks the same as a Thule rack lock. I took out the plastic lock and compared it with a Thule lock core. Yup, the same. I’ve been using Thule racks since cars had real rain gutters, so I have a bag of cores. I had a matching set of 4 that I put in the rack covers. Works like a charm.

That is fantastic! My rack lives on my car most of the year, and when I do remove it I feel like im gonna break the plastic “lock”. Do you have a part number for those? I’d much rather have a real key. Also, do your covers fit really tight or is there some gap in them? one of mine is juuust loose enough that it whistles a little bit, but you can’t hear it with the windows up.

You can find the lock cores on amazon or ebay. You’ll need a 4 pack. They’re not cheap, but I had a set from an old rack. All my covers seem to fit tight, in fact I have to push on them when I’m turning the key, even with the OEM plastic lock. Maybe if you bend the tab where the lock goes into just a bit it might draw the cover in tighter.
