I'd still say Insurance costs have risen more than gasoline :
Car insurance rates have recently surged at a much higher inflation rate than gasoline, heavily impacting driver budgets. According to the Pew Research Center, long-term inflation puts gasoline about 35.9% higher than in 2020, while recent data points show yearly auto insurance jumping between 19.1% and 20.6% during peak inflationary periods.

Crazy... My insurance rates have consistently gone down 50-100$/yr the last 7 years. Most recently I added a BMW X7 and they went up marginally by <100$/yr. The X7 comes out much cheaper to insure than the its.

I have to agree with you, residing in the bucolic burbs I forgot about the high insurance rates I paid when I was younger driving a sports car in a no fault insurance state. I also forgot about when I went t o California in the 1970's with a TR-7 and I was quoted $3000 a year to insure it by AAA. Needless to to say I didn't sure with them
