How and what did you use to fix those rattles? I'm new to this car and I can notice already little rattles and road noise is obnoxious in it. Can you recommend some stuff to me?? Thank you!Out of every car I've ever purchased, used or new, this has been the biggest POS on build quality and material quality. The brake fluid being putrid is a straight out safety concern. It drives well for the most part and it's a lot of fun if you ignore the obscene amount of rattles, squeaks, creaks, and just general things falling apart (like hatch handles, plastic trim cover pieces, etc). The type r has the same center screen design and has had the same tsbs for it. I'm still shocked they can't figure out how to implement these fixes at the factory. The paint looking 3 years old off a dealer lot was something else. I can't even fathom how we got there.
I've driven a couple Fl5 on track and sat in half a dozen of them out there. With some miles on them, they're really no better. Similar buzzes and rattles. In most case they're actually worse because the suspension is so much stiffer. Keep in mind I live in the Midwest and we have shit, chip sealed roads and potholes everywhere. If you live someplace with immaculate roads, you probably think the car is comfy and doesn't make much noise. We all have to keep in mind that each individual's experiences with this car can vary from road to road, state to state, and of course everyone's tolerance and expectations of noise. If you're coming from a Kia sportage this car probably feels like a space age rocketship. If you're coming from a miata or 86, you'll probably feel like you're stepping into an suv.
I've spent countless hours fixing rattles and sound deadening. It has dramatically improved things, but it seems every week or two I find a new rattle. Today on a conference call headed to Kinder pickup one guy's voice specifically kept creating a high pitched buzz from the very edge of the driver door trim by my shoulder. Super hard to pinpoint... I will find you and fix you eventually.
I cannot overstate how poor the interior quality is, but for everyone that these comments will piss off, keep this in mind: despite how much I think the quality is garbage, I do think the drive overshadows it. I wouldn't be spending countless hours chasing rattles and fixing Honda stupidity if the car wasn't worth it. I could have nearly any car, and with my wife giving me the go ahead to buy another family vehicle (sq7 most likely) with a 3rd kid coming along I could certainly have just gotten rid of the its and gotten another racecar, rebuilt my totaled racecar that's still sitting at a bodyshop, or just bought something like a cayman, vette, mustang, 86, or some other legitimate sports car that comes with a manual... But instead I'm sitting here collecting parts and sitting on hundreds of green pop clips I expect to break one to two at a time.
With that being said...I agree that there is a lot they could and should have done with this car at its price point but how many options are out there for a manual car these days??!!
