That said, your tuner should tell you what gap they want. Do you need a step colder plug based on their recommendations? Are you using new plugs or gapping...
If you shift a little slower (pause at neutral before proceeding to the next gear) does the "grinding" go away?

I do find my gears are crunchy if I try to speed shift, especially in 2nd.

Cool thanks! I appreciate all the feedback. Oddly I did notice the affected wiper was lifting a bit in the middle as if bent, but then I gave the existing wipers another thorough cleaning (I thought I'd already done that, but I guess not enough) and for now they seem to be working ok.
So I just bought a used Type S and the wiper on the passenger side will not make contact with a large portion of that side of the windshield. It's annoying for my passenger but not preventing me from seeing. I asked the dealer I bought it from (a Subaru one) to replace them after the test...
