There's really no such thing as a Honda "sport tuned" CVT. ;) The 1.5T will likely get the Civic's CVT unit with paddle shifters.
As far as the CVT hate. Pretty much all my cars have been manual. My 10th gen Civic 1.5T is my first CVT car. At first I hated it. Hated the way it sounded and felt...
Many hoped for an Si hatch that offered both a manual and either a traditional auto or DCT. Then along comes the Integra hatch that kind of answered the prayers...
Except...
Reading into that article about the Integra Coupe not being feasible likely tells us something else. Being Civic based...
It's all perspective. When I bought my 10th gen Civic back in '17 it seemed so big compared to the last Civic I owned (a '94). Then this thing park next to me and I realized my car was still relatively small.
I think they did a helluva job taking the "mature" Civic XI and making it look more sporty. For me, it's going to boil down to the tune they use on the 1.5 turbo engine. The Si output is a little too low for this heavier car. Definitely promising if they get the power and pricing right.
Let's say the new base Integra weighs 3,200 lbs as a worse case guesstimate. Let's say it uses the Si 1.5T's 200/192 output.
While it would I'm sure be set up to be a great handler, acceleration would likely be so-so. I'm talking a high 6's best case to low 7's worse case 0-60.
For comparison...
Good attitude. o_O
Varmint was just voicing his opinion that he thought it might be a little smaller. What's wrong with that? It's just an opinion, right?
Tough crowd.
Not to go too far off subject but my dad had a '76 Coupe DeVille. Talk about big. It was 231" long... nearly 20 feet. I drove it once in a while and with 400 lb ft of torque it moved pretty well. Parallel parking was a different story. ;)
But it's all perspective. Cars back in the 60's and 70's were boats. The 1972 Plymouth Duster I drove was considered a small-ish car for it's time but it was nearly 189".
Let's do the math...
11th hatch... 179"
11th sedan... 184"
New Integra is said to be 2" longer than the sedan... so 186".
Conclusion. The Integra is 7" longer than the 11th hatch.
As an owner of the first gen Integra, sure I was hoping they went retro. But they didn't and I'm not one of the those people irate about it. If this car comes in at 30K, it will be a bargain in today's market.
My only concern is with the size of the car. It's definitely larger than I hoped but...
I have dozens of tuning threads at CivicX but here's the biggest one:
https://www.civicx.com/forum/threads/the-tuned-civicx-experience-reliability-thread-for-all-models.42361/
My 1.5T's been tuned nearly 4 years and currently is tuned to about 220whp/250wtq.
A couple points. So now we know the Integra is a bit larger than the XI sedan. And we know that as a rule, hatches and liftbacks tend to be a bit heavier than their sedan counterparts. That rear glass is heavy. Plus with this being an Acura, it will be higher contented than the Si, again likely...
So if it's longer, it's likely noticeably heavier as well. Hopefully Honda tunes the 1.5 for more power than the Si. You guys that follow my CivicX tuning threads know the engine has plenty of headroom for safely (and reliably) pushing more power.
