That doesn't seem right. Out of many pts cars I've owned I've only had an issue when the clutch release sensor (top clutch sensor not lower depression sensor) was bad from wear. In this car it starts every time so far.
Could it be a bad sensor?
I kinda doubt any warranty or even dealer support.

Look at your second photo and the relation of black plastic to silver. Airflow against static pressure is mostly about frontal surface area. By putting anything in front (whether that's plastic, screen, or a thicker intercooler) you're limiting the amount of air that can pass through.
