Im getting ready for my phearable tune and just got an email about gapping my spark plugs, is it even necessary? I ask for the 91 octane tune.

AI says: Stock Spark Plug Gap: 0.028 to 0.031 inches (0.7 to 0.8 mm). That's using a prompt asking for it to use Honda/Acura documents.

That said, your tuner should tell you what gap they want. Do you need a step colder plug based on their recommendations? Are you using new plugs or gapping existing? How many miles are on the existing?

In general for tuning, yes, it matters. Will it blow your car up if you don't, probably not, but the tighter the inputs the better and safer the tune. Tuning ain't cheap, but plugs and gapping are, so if I were you I'd ask my tuner.

Like DK mentioned, it’s a good idea. I also have a phearable tune (93) and ran it for about 2k miles on the stock plugs. For some reason I completely forgot to do the plugs.

I recently changed them to his recommended brand and gapped them accordingly. Noticeable difference. Smoothed things out and while the butt dyno says better acceleration I haven’t run on a dyno to know for sure.

If you can do an oil change then plugs are relatively easy and cheap to replace.

Good call. Ill gap the plugs before running the tune. Whats everyone prefer method to close the gap?
