Brake pedal ratcheting/creaking sound after dislodging some rocks

Hey all,

I have a 2024 de5 with 16k miles. I recently had some rocks stuck in between the rotor and shield, and I dislodged them the way we all normally do it: go in reverse, side to side, hit brakes hard.

Ever since then, I've had this ratcheting/creaking sound with my brakes. It happens with the engine off and with it on, and I can feel the ratcheting in my my foot as I press and release the pedal.

The sound is louder outside the cabin than inside.



Anyone ever deal with this? The car feels like it brakes just fine, no change in stopping distance, etc.

Sounds more like the spring is really creaky...

Is this while you're engaging and disengaging the parking brake?

wow that is really loud. I am curious to know more. If it were me I would take off the wheel and take off the caliper to look at the caliper and pads.

Not parking brake, regular brake pedal

There's a tension spring on the calipers themselves. That's what keeps the pads from rattling in the rears. Check that and make sure that it's seated properly (and present)

FYI to anyone following this:

I took it to dealer, they advised my brake pads wore down and were causing the caliper guide pins to contact something or move at an angle. Idk how to describe it, that's how they explained it to me.

They replaced pads, flushed brake fluid, resurfaced my rear rotors while they were at it. Front rotors did not need replacement.

Sound is gone now.

I appreciate the heads up. I checked it and it seemed okay to my untrained eyes/hands. Dealership told me it was worn pads causing the caliper guide pins to catch or move at an angle. That's my best understanding of what they told me, I could have misunderstood what they meant.
