I don’t think so. It makes more sense to re-coat it and restore the gloss first. Then PPF.

It might be better to PPF? It’s a small area and should not be very expensive.

One more question - any recommendation for a specific 3M tape?

Looks like the one for $150 is taped on the OEM insert (based on pics it comes with 3M tape on the inside part). The expensive is a full replacement. The price is way too high.
