Interesting - the same thing has happened to me, where I have the keyless remote in my pocket and yet nothing happens when I pull the driver door. The passenger door will unlock per usual, and after an engine cycle, the driver door works again. This has happened twice to me.

I agree with a high quality ceramic coat, either done professionally or at home. Cost will differ with each. I swear by it and how easy it makes cleaning the car.
